Scouts The first class to graduate from St. Pius X in 1958. I was in 6th grade when the school opened. We were the oldest kids...there was no 7th or 8th grade. It took the school three years to achieve full accreditation and be entitled to issue grade school diplomas (as it was explained to us then). It was for that reason that the older siblings of classmates of mine had to go to St. Bernard's. Our class had a reunion in the early 80's...full tilt with a highly decorated auditorium, dance and dinner. Sister Mary Juliana, Msg. Charles King, Msg. Raphael Kamel |

Singing sound of music songs with Sr. Celestine's lead Learning to eat lunch fast, so I'd have more time for recess. Friendships, laughs, tea parties. When Mrs. Malouf went into the boys bathroom to look at what I had written on the wall "I love Beam" Sister Philomena teaching me how to count in Gaelic and to knit. Impromptu talent days with Leslie Bean and Jack Costello. Father Henry Drozd carrying me on his shoulders at recess. Making a "Life of Christ" book in Sister mary's Class. Diagramming sentences in Mrs. Thornton's class. Learning from Mrs. Breeding how much I love Texas history. Sister Gabriel and Sister Eugenia - what a pair of tough nuns! The disastrous 8th grade class trip to Tennyson Park (golf carts!) and having to write something one hundred times in our best penmanship (was it the preamble to the constitution?). Playing guitar in the school Mass every week. Putting together the school newspaper (Tigers Paws?). Being so nervous whenever Msgr. Weinzapfel would come to the classroom to distribute our report cards. He would always make a comment about how good or bad our grades were. The bust of Pope Pius with sunglasses and holding a banana peel.

The annual activities we did for Msgr. Also, planting the tree outside the Parish Hall. The building of the gym. The nuns and then there were non. The convent becoming a day care & now it's gone. My classmates, teachers & the wonderful memories! The 8th grade play. Christopher enjoyed the sports and his friends at St. Pius X Mrs. Wilson in 4th grade. So many to choose from!! Jill Slovak (R.I.P.) and I hiding in the sports equipment closet during P.E. Winning cheerleading competitions with Mrs. Hebert and Lisa, nuns fussing at me for wearing make-up.."if Jesus intended for you to have blue eyelids, you would have been born with blue eyelids" and my handwriting never being good enough. Sr. Maura in first grade, what a great nun. Sr. Louis in 6th grade always busting my chops about the Dallas Cowboys. As my classmates know, I am not a Dallas cowboys fan. Sr. also made me sing the Notre Dame fight song in front of the class. Picking up trash during recess and getting candy from Sr. Atratca. The Sisters of the Holy Ghost were awesome! Serving Mass at 6:15 am and the Stations of the Cross on Friday afternoons.

Grilled cheese sandwich & tomato soup, and steak fingers Coach Mathews getting kicked in the groin. Playing with the same mangled yellow rubber football at recess and hoping that it would still be there after every summer because it was the only one I could throw correctly. Prayer Partners, pep rallies, field day, cheerleading and playing basketball Any special days where we dressed up were always memorable like Dallas Cowboys Day (instead of maybe Mav's Day), Field Day, 49ers Day, and Clown Day. I remember for Clown Day I was a "low-wire" acrobat in a tutu where I walked on masking tape taped to the floor and I enjoyed every step. I think my favorite teachers were Mrs. Duncan, Mrs. Rubino, Mr. Moretta and Mrs. Empey, but all in all, my teachers had their wonderful little quirks that made life either interesting, fun or quite a challenge. I was very, very shy which did make things difficult, but looking back, everything wasn't half as bad as I thought it was. Whatever drama that may have been was all part of growing up and are now just fond, humorous memories to look back on.

My 8th grade autobiography. I still have it to this day. I remember dressing like a clown on clown day and parading around school in my funny clothes. I remember performing for all of the second graders. That was the funnest day ever for me! Spring Carnivals, Prayer Partners, Making scrapbooks, and the field trips to the high schools. Sign language of the Our Father in 5th grade and eating in the new cafeteria in 8th grade. All of my friends, and all of the wonderful teachers that I had. Along with the exception of some. The field days, with being able to sit outside for lunch during 8th grade. When I got my second grade prayer partner in eighth grade. One of my favorites was gym class, playing all the activities (cookie monster tag, hair tag, toy chest...), just not the exercising/stretching, but... Having prayer partners and the activities we got to do with them. Field Day. Eighth grade play (Yard Sale). My teachers...had many great ones! I still keep in touch with two of them! My favorite St. Pius X School memory is when the whole school threw Msgr. Weinzapfel his 50th jubilee celebration. I was in 4th grade. My 8th grade year...the dances, sports, recess, LUNCH!!!, and the 8th grade play! Being able to eat outside for lunch. That was my favorite. Field day Always having awesome lunches and then going out to recess with all my friends, even through the eighth grade. Student Council President! Playing sports. My favorite memory would have to be having recess up to my 8th grade year. My friends and I always had a great time at recess. Graduation.
