Policies and Procedures
The Saint Pius X Elementary Library/Media Center maintains a multi-ethnic, multimedia collection that supports the curriculum, Catholic teachings and the diverse needs and learning/teaching styles of the faculty and students. Special attention is given to the development of positive attitudes towards libraries and information sources that will promote the lifelong use of libraries and other resources to help students stay informed in a rapidly changing world.
Library Hours: The library is open after school until 4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday or while students are present. On Mondays, the library is closed for Faculty meetings.
Circulation: A specific time is allotted to each class within the school week. During this time, students exchange or renew books. Younger grade levels may also have a story time or library instruction. Books will not be checked out to students with outstanding fines or overdue materials.
Kindergarten students are allowed to check out one book each week.
1st grade is allowed to check out 1 book at the beginning of the year. After the 1st quarter, they are allowed two books.
2nd-8th are allowed to check out 2 books. A third book may be checked out if it is required for a classroom assignment.
Library visits: Students may visit the library during the day with teacher's permission and a library pass. Any after school visit must have a written notice sent to the teacher. A parent is welcomed to come into the library with their student after school.
Checkout Period: Kindergarten - 5th grade has a 1 week checkout period. 6th-8th is given 2 weeks.
Renews: Books may be renewed. The book must be present when renewed.
Overdue books: Fines are assessed at .10 per day per book. Students may not check out another book until the fine is resolved.
Lost/damaged books: Students are responsible for reimbursing the school for lost or damaged books. Students may not check out another book until the book cost is paid.
Magazines and Periodicals: They are here for the classes to enjoy and may not be checked out.
Overdue notices: Notices are sent out every 2 weeks if possible. Effort is made to inform students verbally of late fees if they are present when the book is returned.
Copy fees: A .10 per page fee is charged for copies/printing. If a student does not have payment at that time, then it will be added to the library fee.
