More 1980's Memories...
Riding bikes to Michele Melancon's house almost every day during the summer.  Curt Dybala's Pee Wee's Playhouse party.  Sock hops and dances in the gym.

Field Day - winning the 3 legged races every year with my friend, Lori McLaughlin! Sloppy Joes in the cafeteria!  Recess after lunch and counting the whistles that Ms. Herbert blew to see if it was our turn to go in.Playing "War Ball" (dodge ball) in Mrs. Edwards' PE class.
Going to Sonny Martinez's b-day party at Chuck E. Cheese, it was the 1st time I had been there.  Old City Park class field trips.  Going to the school library and picking out books on the list; then, taking "book tests" on them.  The school gym opening; the parish celebrating the opening with a Spaghetti Dinner.  Carpooling with other SPX families to school.  Eating lunch in the cafeteria and trading lunch items; remembering when everyone wanted "Fruit Roll-ups" in their lunch.  Having a crush on Tracey Patak.
Leaving SPX in the middle of 3rd grade and moving to Michigan.  Then, moving back to Dallas and rejoining all the same old classmates for the start of 5th grade.  Being in the following teachers' classes:  Mrs. Bebuck, Mrs. Dorothy, Mrs. Burns, Mrs. Kwilosz, Ms. Hafertepe, Mrs. Rittmueller, Mrs. Empey (best teacher ever), Mrs. O'Hara.  Starting pre-school and going all the way through 8th grade with 5 classmates: Curt Dybala, Richard Philips, Michelle Easler, Michael Becerra, and Brian Girard.
The May procession to crown the statue of Mary in the church.
There are so many, but one time I remember Beth Hand tying her shoe laces together and walking to the front of the room in Sister Lourdes' class.
Football games and school dances
Being in the lower grades when you still had to wear a jumper and turning the top half of the jumper inside the skirt so you could "appear" to be one of the 7th or 8th grade girls that just wore the skirt.  My first kiss in kindergarten from Mark Rilander.  Having a crush on Curt Dybala & Jeff Davis.  Danny Redmond getting taken off the bus & sent home for mooning the car behind us on the 8th grade trip to Six Flags.  Mrs. Karlen and ALLLL of the Sweetheart memories:  drill team camps, competitions in San Marcus, Galveston, South Padre & New Orleans, making Lieutenant, practicing in her front yard...
The closeness of the school.  It was more like a small town feeling.
Ms. Davis, my first grade teacher, made a Charlotte's Web dress for herself with all the illustrations that we, her class, drew for her.
Drill team competing at the Gofer Bowl...to the Superman song...twirling silver and blue streamers..
Life long friendships made, and "Ridin' the Pine Bench" for Sister Gabriel's Office! Here is a great story and friends will be shocked...I was awarded the Religion Award in 7th & 8th grade by Father Sean Martin!
Being a fire marshal in 8th grade and getting to monitor Sr. Lourdes' class during fire drills.  Funny, she never made the connection between her classes lack of perfect scores on fire drills and her daily chorus of "Oh Tim, you're nothing like your brother Paul."
I remember that during the Halloween carnival the music room upstairs in the gym was transformed into a makeshift dance spot.  The lights were turned off and the music would be loud.  Eighth grade trips to Six Flags, Eighth grade camp, passing notes in the hallway, and lunch recess in the gym and Parish Hall during rainy days.  Playing hooky so that I could take a nap on the beds behind the reception office.  Also, all my teachers Mrs. Wilson (1), Mrs. Burns (2), Mrs. Morgan, Mrs. Wolfe, Mrs. Empey, Ms. English, Mrs. O'Hara, Mrs. Noullet, Mrs. Canaday (sp?), Mrs. Chadalain, Mrs. Yoxall, Mrs. Dillon, and Mrs. Rittmuler.
Mrs. Guineaux's second grade class.
The making things into the time capsule.
I do not have a favorite memory.  My time at St. Pius was memorable and enjoyable because of my teachers and friends.
Standing outside the parish hall waiting to learn who my teacher was for the year.
Moses Ruiz wearing a suit to Six Flags, too funny!!!!
Being sent to the principal's office.
Mrs. Breeding -- 2nd and 4th grade.  8th grade trip to Six Flags. Listening to Sr. Lourdes tell Tim Salmon he was nothing like his sainted brother Paul Salmon.
Shenanigans in Sister Lourdes' literature class (7th grade???) - my memory is just a little rusty these days!
The carnival in 8th grade.
Writing notes and snow days!
Long hours of practicing on the field for drill team
Cheerleader Nationals in Florida, Gopher Bowl, Halloween Haunted House, Carnival.
When Sister Mary would light a candle, she wouldn't throw the match out, she would lay it on the window edge to air out.
My favorite memory is just being a part of the school and all the friends I have made from the school.  I still keep in touch with several people from the group.
I remember playing games like "jacks" and "pick up sticks" with the other kids in the class before school started, taking naps or rest time and I remember being afraid of Sister Gabriel.  Probably had something to do with my brothers and sisters being sent home for uniform and dress code violations.
Field Days, Sunday football games, and Halloween carnivals
Playing soccer everyday at lunch.
Friends
When Mrs. Tobias came back from Hawaii and brought back all the goodies.
Getting together as a school and celebrating Msgr. Weinzapfel's anniversaries or birthdays.  I remember one year as a school we stood in the gym (brand new then) & formed the state of Texas.  Singing his favorite song...if I remember it was God Bless America or America the Beautiful.
Having Mrs. Rylander as a third grade teacher.
Sister Gabriel, Sister Eugene, Sister Mary's garden, and Weinzapfel.
I remember Sr. Madeleine being the nicest nun at SPX.  Every nun that knew me called me "Marie".  Msgr. always, always called me "Elizabeth" even though he had been at my house many times and flew with my dad in his plane a few times...I remember cheese pizza.  That was the best day of all.  I remember seeing 1 or more of my brothers on the bench outside by Mrs. Jennings' office.  I remember Jason Rule and a few others eating glue in 5th grade.  When my dad coached the football team, I remember going to Gopher Bowl and being the cheerleader mascot as a toddler.  Sister Mary always, always shouting "With God, All things are possible!!"  Then telling us girls to uncross our legs...then picking up her dress on her right side, showing her slip and taking change out for someone.  What a trip she was!
I enjoyed the friends that I made during my years at St. Pius, especially my cheerleading buddies.
In 2nd grade, I carried Mary's crown during the procession around the campus for the Crowning of Mary in May.
Football games, 8th grade play.
First day of every new school year.
Anything in Mrs. Dorothy's Class.  My mom was the camp fire leader while I was at SPX.  Angie Garza, Cecelia Foster, Anna Krajca and Lourdes Pajo were some of the members from our group.
8th Grade - doing our life autobiographies.
Being an altar boy, Eagle Scout, and winning football championship.
Ms. Dorothy for my kindergarten teacher - she was the best.
Meeting my best friend for life (she is still my best friend).
The sweethearts drill team with Ms. Karlen and all the competitions (including California and Galveston). I was in the squad when we named the drill team.
Competing in cheerleading competitions like Gopher Bowl and in San Marcos with friends.
The nuns.
The "new" girl that was introduced to our class in the 5th grade who became my best friend.  We went separate ways in high school, but I will never forget the times we shared at St. Pius.
